English Department

Welcome to the English Department! We want Alfaisal students to be well-known for their dynamic critical thinking and communication skills as they interact across cultures and organizations. Our first-year composition sequence takes a rhetorical approach to academic writing. Students begin by learning rhetorical analysis and then learn how to make effective choices as they compose their own arguments. The second semester emphasizes research, and students compose a full-length research report. This first year of reading, writing, analyzing, and researching prepares students for success in higher-level English electives as well as academic writing assignments across the curriculum.

For second-year students, we have ESP courses designed to match their specific needs as they begin more advanced work in their chosen fields. Our ultimate goal is to develop readers, writers, speakers, and listeners who can confidently engage in discourse in a variety of settings.
